  • I’ve been involved in gymnastics for over 40 years
  • I started gymnastics at the age of 5 and started competing when I was 8 years old up until I graduated High School.
  • I started coaching rec classes at the age of 16 and began working with competitive team a few years later.
  • I have coached all levels of gymnastics from mommy and me to advanced rec classes and all levels of team for over 30 years.
  • I grew up in southern california and moved to bluffton in 2021.
  • I have taught and judged High School Gymnastics, Taught kinesiology & gymnastics classes at Cal State Long Beach, taught summer rec classes at Long Beach City College, Work at the Lakewood YMCA in California for over 25 years as their Head Team Gymnastics Coach, as well as many other gymnastics centers.
  • I am very passionate about the sport of gymnastics and love working with athlete’s of all ages. I love teaching kids to love the sport as much as I do in a safe, fun learning environment.
  • I believe gymnastics teaches life long lessons that these athletes will carry on with them for the rest of their lives.
  • The best part about working with these athletes is watching them get a skill that they have been working so hard to master.
  • I have been working at a coastal gymnastics center for 3 1/2 years.

Amari Koch-Cochran/ Team Coach

Amari moved to Beaufort from Atlanta in 2022. Previously had done competitive gymnastics growing up and went into coaching team for 6 years in Georgia at Cobb Challengers Gymnastics. She coaches levels 1-5 and Xcel. Currently coaches USAG level 3. Background check safe sport and USAG certified for 8 years.

  • I went to Ithaca College in Ithaca,NY earning my bachelor of science degree
    - After 15 years of gymnastics, I transitioned my gymnastics into diving skills!

    - 3 All-American titles
    - Seniors year place second in nation at NCAA

Liz Rainey/Recreational supervisor/ Xcel Coach/ Recreational Coach

  • Liz has worked at Coastal Gymnastics for three years as a recreational gymnastics coach and now also as a team coach. She has had the privilege of working with exceptional coaches who have enriched her knowledge and understanding of the sport.
  • Liz is originally from England, and relocated to the United States during her high school years. She has been immersed in the world of sports throughout her life. Liz is deeply passionate about empowering children to cultivate strength and self-assurance through the discipline of gymnastics.

Gwen Izzie / Recreational Coach

  • Hi! My name is Gwen, I’m a former gymnast from coastal gymnastics center! I was a level 8 but when i was a level 7, at state meet, I placed 1st on bars and beam! Which qualified me for regionals! Now I go to HHCA and love the academics there! I love to do volleyball and softball!

Mackenzie Harter/ Recreational Coach

Eden Burr / Recreational Coach

  • My name is Eden and I am 17. I have done gymnastics and cheer since I was 7 and I love working at the gym! In my free time I like to hang out with my friends and go out to eat! I also love to go to the gym and do at least one active thing a day!
  • Cheered for May River High School JV and Varsity and placed 8th in the state in 2024.
  • Was awarded “Most Positive” by her coaches and teammates

Ashley Haley / Recreational Coach

  • I was born in Nashville, Tennessee and started gymnastics in a Mommy and Me class and then started rec classes. My family and I moved to Bluffton in 2017 and started at Coastal when the gym first opened and have been here for nearly 8 years. I was on their competitive Excel team for 5 years, progressing to Gold within that time span. I not only learned gymnastics but gained some of my closest friends and favorite memories. I now coach rec classes. My favorite part of coaching is watching a correction click when kids finally get a skill. Currently, I am a Freshman at JPII.

Harmony Cloningerr / Recreational Coach

  • I have been coaching gymnastics for 4 years and am currently studying psychology at the University of South Carolina Beaufort to become a marriage and family counselor. I did gymnastics from the ages of 3 to 18 and then committed to Coker University to join their Acrobatics and Tumbling team of which I was a part of during my freshman year of college. In conjunction to coaching gymnastics, I love personal training as well. In my free time, I love to play piano, play pickleball, and hangout with my friends.

Brooke Michowshi / Recreational Coach

  • I grew up in Northern Illinois and started tumbling at the age of 4. By 6, I joined a team and trained under power tumbling and trampoline world-class athlete Kevin Ekberg. I also competed in cheerleading throughout high school until an ACL injury shifted my focus.
  • For the past 10 years, I’ve coached gymnastics and tumbling at both competitive and recreational levels. Specializing in tumbling, my coaching approach emphasizes injury prevention, especially given my own ACL experience. As a full-time teacher, I’m passionate about helping kids grow both athletically and personally. I’ve worked with athletes of all ages and skill levels and love seeing them reach their full potential while sharing my love for the sport.

Ayla Speicher / Recreational Coach

  • I moved to Bluffton two years ago in my Sophomore year of high school after growing up in western Maryland my whole life. I am now a senior at Bluffton High! From age 4 through high school I grew up skiing and doing gymnastics. I competed in both the Junior Olympic and Xcel program in gymnastics for many years, with my favorite event being beam! I plan to study physical therapy in college so that I can continue to help and coach people to do the things that they love. Gymnastics was a very important part of my life, and I have gained so many memories and lifelong friends from this sport. I am so grateful to have the ability to coach and help young gymnasts love this sport like I did!

Megan Swartz / Parent and tot Coach

  • I was a gymnast for 13 years and previously coached for 11 years. I’m a nurse practitioner. My daughter, Amelia, is on Coastal’s team.

Lucy Thompson / Recreational Coach

  • Lucy is a Recreation Team Lead at Marriott with a strong foundation in hospitality management. Growing up, she competed in gymnastics and made it to Level 9 Regionals. Her gymnastics career instilled focus and discipline that continue to guide her today. With a passion for athletics and a talent for creating memorable experiences, Lucy brings a unique blend of skills to the Coastal Gymnastics Center team. She’s dedicated to helping athletes succeed and reach their full potential.

Paige Allgire / Recreational Coach

Alaina Balch / Recreational Coach

  • I recently started coaching gymnastics four months ago, but I have always loved teaching kids how to do something I am passionate about. I was a cheerleader for six years and did dance for five years. I also did gymnastics for a year. I am currently a sophomore at May River High School doing dual enrollment at TCL planning to graduate next year. I enjoy going to the gym, hanging out with friends, and driving!
